Medical Words/Medical Worlds: Medical Language and its Contexts in the Medieval Latin West

‘Medical Words/Medical Worlds’ is a workshop to be held in Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge on 5-6 June 2025, co-hosted by the projects LEIGHEAS: Language, Education and Medical Learning in the Premodern Gaelic World (Maynooth University) and eDIL: A Dictionary of the Irish Language (University of Cambridge and Queen’s University Belfast). Speakers will explore medieval medical lexicography and translation in a range of linguistic traditions, including Irish, Welsh, German, French and English. The workshop will include a visit to the ‘Curious Cures’ exhibition at the Cambridge University Library and the launch of the volume Medicine in the Medieval North Atlantic World.
